Introduction to my review:
I have been pleasantly surprised by all the scents offered this winter from Better Homes and Gardens. We're talking quite the bakery collection which always makes me happy. One scent I couldn't wait to purchase in candle and melt form…. Pumpkin Ginger Cookie. I love cookie scents!
The picture on the label showed freshly baked cookies sprinkled with sugar… I wanted to eat one!! That's the risk (and beauty) with burning these inviting bakery aromas… you can't help but crave the real deal. Once I smelled the wax for the first time, I couldn't wait to light this candle. It smelled light but warm and inviting. I had high hopes the fragrance would really come alive once I started burning it (and melting my melts.)
What did my candle (and melts) smell like?
First sniff… the aroma from the wax was really light. I could smell a sweet bakery but it was faint. The melts smelled about the same – but maybe a tad stronger. That's not unusual since many fragrances come to life once the wax warms up. Time to find out!!
I started with my candle first and lit it in a small bathroom. Pretty much every Better Homes and Gardens candle I've ever burned has been lightly scented so small rooms work best for me. It took several hours for the candle to even reach a full melt pool. These are super slow burning candles so it took awhile to even notice the fragrance. The scent… very light so it was hard to gauge what the fragrance even smelled like. With my nose up close to the candle… I smelled a creamy bakery vanilla. It smelled pretty good but it was really-really light.
The melts…. much better!! It took about 10 minutes for the fragrance to saturate my great room and oh my goodness, once it did, it smelled really good. Not sure I would say the fragrance smelled like a cookie or really even pumpkin but the vanilla and ginger really stood out the most to me and it smelled really good. It was different and a unique bakery scent.
Strength for both… on a scale of 1 to 10, the candle was maybe a 2, it was very light. The melts between a 6 & 7. It wasn't super strong … it was more of a soft medium.
How did my candle burn?
My candle burned great. It was a really slow burning candle so it took hours to reach a full melt pool… once it did, it burned clean with no soot or wasted wax.
Closing to my review:
I enjoyed Pumpkin Ginger Cookie but not sure I would say I "loved" it if that makes sense. It was a different kind of bakery scent… more of a creamy vanilla with hints of ginger. If I see this fragrance again, I'll probably stick to melts and not buy the candle again. It was too lightly scented for me… even burning it in a tiny bathroom. The melts gave a much better scent throw.
If you love creamy vanilla scents and you see these melts at your Walmart… definitely smell one. You'll probably like it.
Happy candle hunting!
