Microsoft Edge Dev channel updated with Read Aloud for PDFs, much more

Microsoft is still calculation polish to the new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium with weekly releases on the Dev channel, and this calendar week is no different. A new build is rolling out to testers today, pushing the build number upward to 77.0.211.1 and bringing several new features and a ton of problems fixes.

Near notable in this release is the addition of Read Aloud for PDFs. The browser has as well been localized for 11 more languages and several portions of the settings and layout take been tweaked.

  • Read Aloud enabled for PDFs
  • Enable secure receipt of payment menu information.
  • Enable Application Reputation from SmartScreen by default
  • Fix to support Dolby audio on Windows 8.
  • Family safety feature has a flag in edge://flags.
  • Direct launch for ClickOnce applications has been enabled.
  • Support for HEVC decoder has been added.

  • Enabled ability to automatically repair extensions by default.
  • Fixed an issue with invitee more than support on privacy and services settings page.
  • Improvements to night mode in diverse controls and pages
  • Select the last used Chrome profile by default when importing from Chrome.
  • Motion multiple controls to Fluent UI
  • Improve the cleanup logic in the installer
  • Limit New Tab Page content for Education SKUs and Windows 10s.
  • Fixes to new WebView command rendering
  • Fixes for importing defaults from Microsoft Border and Internet Explorer
  • Fixes for Reading View toolbar
  • Fixes for importing pinned tabs and settings during Get-go Run Experience
  • Set to apply user preference for font size rather than preset default.
  • Automatically move keyboard focus to address bar later Get-go Run Experience
  • Fixed the swipe gesture for History on macOS
  • Fixed the sync icon badge on the user flyout.
  • Sound offload fixes to improve performance and battery life.
